Terms and definitions

BCBP

Bar-coded boarding pass data, a data element that includes information about the journey of a single passenger. The focus on single passenger and a journey makes it an ideal data element to have prior to generating a baggage tag.

Custody lock

The EBT is locked to the current journey to prevent anyone else from modifying the content of the EBT intentionally or accidentally during the journey.

DCS

Departure Control System (DCS) is used to load journey information and then issue baggage tags. The connectivity is established from BagID backend.

EBT

An Electronic Baggage Tag is the actual device which is attached to the baggage before traveling. This replaces the need for a paper-tag, and gives the traveler the possibility to track the baggage throughout the journey. Different vendors use different technologies and offer different features.

Lost mode

Users who have added EBTs to their user account have the additional capability of marking the EBT as lost in case of a misplace, avoiding anyone else from using it after that encouraging return.

PNR / record locator

Passenger name record is a booking reference; The airline systems use this to identify a booking uniquely.

SDK

Mobile package that orchestrates the sequence; This will be packaged into the airline’s application providing it with EBT and baggage tagging capabilities.

Travel plan

Entity introduced to represent a passenger’s intention to travel with an EBT, irrespective of the fact that the passenger is identifying himself or traveling as a guest.
